NATURAL DYES

Alkanet Root [8 3/4 oz.]	$12.00	This will give colors from bluish grey to soft burgundy. The plant is easily grown.
Annato Seed [3 ½ oz.]	$6.00	Will give an orange shade. A good dye for cotton.
Brazilwood Dust [8 ¾ oz.]	$12.00	Will give you reds. Before using the dust, expose to the air and sprinkle with water and alcohol.
Brazilwood Chips [8 ¾ oz.]	$10.00	Reds.
Cochineal [2 oz.]	$20.00	Will give the most color when ground into a fine powder. Colors range from dark burgundy to bright red, soft lilac and pink.
Cutch Extract [7 oz.]	$12.00	This is a very easy dye. It will remain fast even on cottons and silks. It produces brown tones when used by itself and is good in combinations of dyes.
Indigo, natural [2 oz.]	$20.00	Gives blue color. Does not dissolve in water. A recipe and reducing agent are needed.
Kamala Powder [3 ½ oz.]	$11.50
Logwood Dust [3 ½ oz.]	$15.00	Colors range from magenta's and browns to purples and pink. A mordant is absolutely needed. Dyes cotton well.
Madder Root [5 1/2 oz.]	$9.00	Colors range from red to red-brown and oranges. It dyes cotton well.
Light Osage Orange Dust [8 3/4 oz.]	$9.50	Gives bright yellows.
Dark Osage Orange Dust [8 ¾ oz.]	$9.50	Gives gold.
Red Sandlewood [3 ½ oz.]	$12.50	This dye is beautiful for blending. It gives lovely browns. Good shade combinations for dolls hair.

MORDANTS

MORDANT	PRICE	USE
Alum [8 ¾ oz.]	$12.00	Most widely used mordant. Recommend no more than 10% [weight of fiber] on protein fibers and no more than 20% on cottons.
Copper [3 ½ oz.]	$7.50	Is used to bring out the greens in dyes. Often used as an after mordant. Use no more than 2% weight of fiber.
Glauber Salt [8 ¾ oz.]	$4.50	Used with natural dyes to level out the bath. Also used in chemical dyes.
Spectralite / Thiourea Dioxide [3 ½ oz.]	$12.00	Is a reducing agent for Indigo. Is used as a replacement for hydrosulfate. Spectralite is stronger than hydrosulfate by a factor of 6.
Tara Powder [3 ½ oz.]	$8.50	Is a natural tannin product. It is needed for the darker colors on cotton, linen and hemp.
Tartaric Acid [3 ½ oz.]	$12.00	A must for cochineal. This mordant will expand the cochineal colors.
Calcium Carbonate [3 ½ oz.]	$4.50	Is used with indigo power fro the saxony blue color. It can also be used to lower the acidity of a dye bath.
